As humans, we mess up … a lot. We say we’ll never do that “one thing” again, but, we do. We go back to following our feelings rather than following God. We go back to our sin. And we always end up in the same place: trapped by despair and hopelessness, wondering if God can or will rescue us from the hole we’ve dug for ourselves.
Throughout the second study of the Minor Prophets, the Israelites cry out to God as they are trapped by the sin they've committed and facing oppression from foreign powers. In response, God sends prophets to echo a promise for His people, “The Lᴏʀᴅ is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him” (Nahum 1:7 ESV). We may feel far from God, but He is always close, waiting for us to return to Him.
